16th AOAFF powered by DEI: Check-in to "The Grand Budapest Hotel" on Tuesday, June 23
On Tuesday, June 23, the 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI, invites you into a world of vibrant colors, intrigue, and dazzling stars with the Academy Award-winning film "The Grand Budapest Hotel" by Wes Anderson. Free admission.
The city's beloved open-air cinema event will open the doors of the acclaimed and much-loved "The Grand Budapest Hotel" on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at 9:30 PM, in Kotzia Square.
With a charming gigolo and an eccentric dandy as its main character (yes, all of that combined, plus a Ralph Fiennes in incredible form), “The Grand Budapest Hotel” is a pastel-hued allegory of European history spanning an entire (almost) century. In a fictional European country, the Republic of Zubrowka somewhere near the Alps, the guests of the “Grand Budapest” check-into a vigorous board of crime, love, and escape, traversing decades of History through their stories.
Twists, humor, superb visual direction, influences from Stefan Zweig’s books, and a brilliant cast come together to create Wes Anderson’s most exuberant film. “The Grand Budapest Hotel” was a major artistic and commercial success, winning four Oscars (for costume design, production design, makeup, music) and, together with “The Royal Tenenbaums,” are the most representative examples of Anderson’s idiosyncratic, whimsical, and unique aesthetic.
