The 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI brings ZIGGY STARDUST at the Zappeion Megaron
Ten years without the Starman! And the 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI, wants to honor him the way he deserves, celebrating ATHENS PRIDE and David Bowie with a screening not to miss: “ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS”, the legendary film by D. A. Pennebaker, for the first time in Greece in its complete form and fully digitally restored! Free entrance.
On July 3, 1973, at the packed Hammersmith Odeon in London and at the height of one of his most successful tours, David Bowie announced to his astonished audience that he was performing for the last time as Ziggy Stardust, symbolically “killing” on stage the androgynous, otherworldly persona that had made him the idol of an entire era. D. A. Pennebaker was there; he filmed the entire concert as well as backstage footage, and in doing so managed to preserve one of the most legendary moments in the history of rock - a priceless document of an artist of seismic power during the most spectacular and adventurous period of his career.
The 16th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI co-organized by the Culture, Sports, and Youth Organization of the City of Athens (OPANDA), presents the nationwide premiere of the complete version of the legendary concert documentary-film, featuring brand-new digital image and sound processing, as well as 13 extra minutes that viewers will have the chance to see for the first time. Exactly ten years after he began his final and far journey to the stars, this screening serves as a tribute to the one and only David Bowie, the first artist who, among so many other heroic achievements, defiantly brought gender fluidity, queer aesthetics, drag, and non-binary identity to the forefront of pop culture.
The screening is part of the ATHENS PRIDE celebrations.
