14th AOAFF powered by DEI: "The Story of Adèle H." with Isabelle Adjani in the Gardens of the French Archaeological School

Isabelle Adjani and François Truffaut explore the dark paths of passion in a remarkable collaboration. The 14th Athens Open Air Film Festival powered by DEI invites you on Wednesday, August 28, to the Gardens of the French Archaeological School to "tell" you the "Story of Adèle H." Free admission.

In collaboration with the Plein-Air Festival by the French Institute of Greece .

Was Adèle Hugo mentally ill? Or was she totally in love? The story of the daughter of the leading French writer, and her raging - and unrequited - love for a British officer is a brilliant opportunity for François Truffaut, in his darkest moment until then (and perhaps ever), to contrast, in his assessment of reality, the sensitivity of Art against the frigidity of History. This is how Truffaut, with an epically overwhelmed Isabelle Adjani, at the starting point of an almost 15-year legendary career in performing, begins his thesis. A thesis as he only knew how to make, with that Nouvelle Vague absence of bombast, the incessant flow of events, the exuberant narrative, the inability of not giving in to every romantic demand. Perhaps at the turn of the social time we are experiencing this is an outdated confession, but sitting one step closer (a movement obligatory in the indulgence of art), Truffaut's incomparable «absurdity» lurks. And according to him, the story of Adèle H's is nothing but a -definitely dramatic- descent into the abyss of love, there where reality evaporates, matter takes a back seat and passion distinguishes the cowards from the crazy ones. Ilias Dimopoulos
