Hard-working Kosmas (Giorgos Fountas) gets involved with a criminal (Stefanos Stratigos) in Dourgouti, an immigrant neighborhood near Syngrou. Luckily, his neighbors will prove instrumental in baling him out and helping him win the heart of the woman he loves (Margarita Papageorgiou).

"Magic City", a seminal film in Greek cinema, was the product of a very fruitful collaboration between director Nikos Koundouros, author Margarita Lyberaki (screenplay) and composer Manos Hatzidakis (soundtrack).

Clearly influenced by Italian Neorealism, Koundouros zeroes in on the agonies of the working class and the refugee communities of Athens, delivering a film with pronounced social sensibilities.

"Magic City" was Koundouros' directorial debut and the first film famed comedian Thanasis Veggos ever appeared in. The screening is organized in collaboration with performance art collective "Όχι Παίζουμε" / "UrbanDig Project". P.G.
