Underestimated in its time, before being cherished by millions of fans, the adventures of Jeff «The Dude» Lebowski were elevated in the realm of worship, aided by unprecedented characters such as John «Jesus» Turturro, the especially bad tempered John Goodman, the constantly receptive Steve Buscemi, the femme fatale Julianne Moore and, of course, the clinically noble Philip Seymour Hoffman in one of the most memorable supporting roles in his brilliant career.
On their own turf, which is no other than that of crispy irony, in that same place where their comic vain always makes a perfect strike, the Coen brothers deliver their satirical epitome by depicting the predestined triumph of idiots who swim in the wilderness of the American dream. And if by now Bridges’ greatest part has flooded the social media in a meme form or is considered by some the coolest – by accident – deity ever appeared in cinema, his sweeping film impact hasn’t lost any of its precision or its unique discordances.
