Having already played with gigantic success the role of Richard the III in G. Britain’s National Theatre, Ian McKellen can be proud to be the mastermind behind the much wanted modernization of the classic Shakespearean play into the big screen.
In 1995, in collaboration with Richard Loncraine who directed the film, he initially adapted the original text and went on to captivate the viewers by holding the leading role in a fresh and full of enduring metaphorical symbolisms that keep winking to the most painful time of modern European history. Worthy colleagues such as Annette Bening, Jim Broadbent and Robert Downey Jr. assemble the cast and offer their glow to the – perhaps – most special Richard ever recorded on celluloid.
