An egocentric meteorologist reluctantly takes on the job of covering a traditional festival in some small Pennsylvanian town for his TV network. Although he's in a great hurry to get this over with, he's suddenly caught in a inexplicable time-loop that forces him to experience the same day over and over again.
Harold Ramis - who met a premature death at age 69 this February past - delivers one of the most popular comedies in contemporary cinema, that was in fact poorly received at the time of release, despite featuring "Ghostbusters" star Bill Murray.
It wasn't until much later when it finally gained the acclaim it deserved, lending its name to endlessly repeated situations and becoming a pop culture phenomenon in its own right.
With Murray in his element and 90s rom-com queen Andie MacDowell confirming her status as the ultimately lovable "girl-next-door", "Groundhog Day" is one of these films that simply begs to be revisited, rewarding audiences with the same generosity, like the very first time. N.S.
