One of the best Greek documentaries of recent years, at tonight's Athens Open Air
Director Gerasimos Rigas spent 2 years documenting the change of seasons marked by a series of moving, yet unpretentious moments in Giannakos' family life. Using a simple yet effective approach, he infiltrates a community in an isolated place, resigned to following the natural rhythm of the surrounding landscape, resulting in the fascinating "Parvas".
When: Tuesday June 24th, at 21.00
Where: Garden of the Numismatic Museum of Athens, Panepistimiou 12 (see map below)
Free entrance
"Parvas" follows the everyday life of the Giannakos family in the capital city of Amorgos. Main character Dimitris Giannakos, also known as Parvas, has maintained a traditional coffee shop for the past forty years, with the help of his wife and daughter.

According to the filmmaker, this documentary is the end of the line for something that started three quarters of a Century ago, beautifully summing up the leading man's main characteristics. Parvas embodies the refined taste of a 7th Century islander, who somehow managed to survive modernity. P.G.
