The 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival with the collaboration of the Byzantine and Christian Museum and the support of the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) and the Greek Film Center, presents "Zelig" (1983). On Monday, July 22, we invite you to the garden of the Byzantine and Christian Museum to enjoy the screening of a rare Woody Allen film, staring as the man with the thousand faces.
The film: In one of his lesser known (especially in Greece) but nevertheless significant moments, Woody Allen delivered "Zelig" (1983), an innovative, multi-dimensional mocumentary about a man who crumbles under the pressure of acceptance.
We’re talking about none other than Leonard Zelig (played by Allen himself), who supposedly became famous in 1920s America for his unconscious ability to look and act like whoever he's around in order to be loved. Despite attracting the attention of both the public and the scientific community, which is determined to study his chameleon-like behavior, only a female analyst (Mia Farrow) proves smart enough to really cure him.
Reconstructing the aesthetics of the era with extensive use of tweaked historical footage, "Zelig" remains one of the funniest and most melancholic moments in our favorite New Yorker’s career, even 30 years after it was first released.
