The neighborhood of Nea Erithrea is filled with memories and feeling
Last night, the 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival expanded its geographic horizons towards the northern suburbs at the leafy October 28th Square at Nea Erithrea. Last night, the 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival expanded its geographic horizons towards the northern suburbs at the leafy October 28th Square at Nea Erithrea. The invitation included a trip down memory lane with Nikos Papatakis’ masterpiece «The Photograph» (1986) into a time of search and wandering that seems more relevant than ever. Spectators of all ages gathered up early, while those passing by the square were lured into this nostalgic journey, whose tragic ending shocked the audience.
The screening was realized with the kind support of the Greek National Tourism Organization and the collaboration of the Greek Film Center, calling the whole neighborhood of Nea Erithrea. The choice was not random, since many local residents have a refugee past and «The Photograph» is an ideal occasion for reminiscing and historical retrospect. Besides, Nikos Papatakis was a great personality of Greek creation and his film represents an icon of a whole era.
And don’t forget the refreshing cinema evenings that are coming right up:
A repetition screening of the film «Zazie in the Metro» is taking place this Sunday, July 21, in the idyllic garden of the Numismatic Museum, which is co-organizing the event. The event is also kindly supported by the French Embassy in Greece, the French Institute of Greece and the channel TV5 Monde.
And what better way to start the week on Monday, July 22, than the screening of a film by the sublime Woody Allen? Enjoy the magnificent garden of the Byzantine and Christian Museum with the film «Zelig» (1983), one of the least screened but funny and at the same time deeply melancholic films of our dear New Yorker.
