A magical trip down the Greek mythology with "Jason and the Argonauts" by the Acropolis

Indulge in a very special screening "Jason and the Argonauts" at a very special location, the Dionysiou Areopagitou Pedestrian Precinct. The 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival is back from the summer holidays and continues its activities with the kind support of the Greek National Tourism Organization.

On the occasion of Ray Harryhausen’s death, aged 92, last May, but also the 50 years anniversary since the film’s release, the 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival honors this pioneer of the 7th Art and restores the adventures of Jason and his fellow travelers where they belong: the screen.

On the return from our summer adventures, the Festival maintains a relaxing freshening ambiance right in the center of Athens with one more open air screening, on Thursday 22 August 2013 at the Dionysiou Areopagitou Pedestrian Precinct by the Acropolis.

The screening is realized with the kind support of the Greek National Tourism Organization   and the U.S. Embassy in Greece, while Fischer will be with us again offering plenty of cold beer.

The Film: Jason and his Argonauts commence the quest to find the Golden Fleece and come across gods, schemes and – of course – a number of unworldly creatures during their travels. Its time you forgot the Greek mythology as you learned it in school: the twisted Hollywood version of the well-known myth, the now-classic «Jason and the Argonauts» (1963), directed by Don Chaffey, has gone down in the history of cinema as a unique cult phenomenon.

The reason for that is none other than the magnificent for their time, handmade stop-motion special effects by the genre’s «wizard» Ray Harryhausen, the man whose legendary resourcefulness managed to breathe life into numerous film monsters. He also influenced, like only very few people have, the work of some of the most important modern directors (Spielberg, Lucas, Cameron etc.) who got involved with fiction.

The Location:  Right across the street from the Acropolis Museum entrance, on the Dionysiou Areopagitou precinct, the 3rd Athens Open Air Film Festival transforms a beautiful, little-known square into a free open-air cinema.
